Busy and stressed parents are putting their children at risk as they do not have time to protect them from preventable accidents.

Research from the Child Accident Prevention Trust revealed that only one in five parents make hot drinks inaccessible, while less than a third ensure that their little ones cannot get their hands on potentially dangerous cleaning products.

The study comes at the beginning of Child Safety Week, which runs until June 22nd.

It also found that just ten per cent of parents make sure that their child knows how to cycle safely on the road and that they understand warning signs.

Katrina Phillips, chief executive of the Child Accident Prevention Trust, said: "The findings are alarming. Many accidents that kill, injure or disable children don’t need to happen. With the help of professionals working with children and families, we can help families prevent serious accidents and tackle the problem head on."

Which? has published a list of definitions for safety stickers which are often seen on products, giving parents the best chance to protect their child.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801388078-ADNFCR
