The National Federation of Builders (NFB) has won a health and safety accolade at the CIOB Commitment to Construction in West Yorkshire awards.

Its Stay Safe, Stay Away scheme was recognised in the event, in which schoolchildren designed posters to make people aware of the hazards of entering building sites and how people can stay safe.

Julia Evans, chief executive of the NFB, said: "Our members work hard to ensure that they operate responsibly and it is great to see that the campaign has won such a prestigious award. I am delighted that the campaign goes from strength to strength every year."

Ms Evans continued by saying that every child who is taught the dangers of building sites could be one who is saved from serious injury.

Loud noise is one of the health dangers of working on construction sites, with Vivienne Michael from Deafness Research UK urging that anyone operating in noisy surroundings should ensure they have adequate ear protection. ADNFCR-2754-ID-801317192-ADNFCR
