Brighton police station recently failed a fire safety test, as officers were not adequately trained in evacuating the premises.

This may prompt businesses to run fire safety tests of their own, while checking that they have the correct fire safety signs in place.

Staff at Sussex House in Crowhurst Road, Brighton, were also not properly trained when it came to using fire extinguishers, causing Sussex Police to introduce new safety measures to the Brighton force, reports the Argus.

Speaking to the newspaper, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Since the audit fire evacuation procedures have updated and changed. It has also been ensured that all staff are aware they need to complete fire safety training via Sussex Police's online portal."

It comes after the loading specialist Thorworld announced a new safety initiative for its personnel.

The company has urged that employers have a duty to care for their workers.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800708943-ADNFCR
