Burnley's bus station has won an award for being one of the safest in the UK, highlighting the recognition that can be given to firms which adopt measures such as effective safety signage.

The station has gained the SafeMark award, after it was assessed against criteria that included health and safety, CCTV coverage, staff training and anti-social behaviour measures, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

David Woodroffe, group passenger facilities manager with bus operator Transdev Blazefield, told the newspaper: "It’s a big honour for the bus station and reflects all the hard work that’s gone into making it as safe as possible for everyone who uses it."

The station will be judged every year, meaning it must maintain its standards to keep hold of the honour.

Last month, firms in Wiltshire were told to ensure that health and safety training is one of their priorities, with St John Ambulance telling the Swindon Advertiser that staff must be safeguarded this year.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801271438-ADNFCR
