The Mill Gate shopping centre in Bury has collected a silver award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

It picked up the honour due to its work in promoting health and safety and efforts to become environmentally-friendly for shoppers, reports the Bury Times.

The award also relates to the Mill Gate’s Car Park Energy Project, where bosses replaced light bulbs with more energy efficient replacements, saving carbon dioxide emissions equating to 38.1 million tonnes.

Pete Barber, centre manager of the Mill Gate, told the news provider: “We are extremely pleased to have received the RoSPA award and our International Green Hero status.

“These achievements are representative of our efforts to be a modern and forward thinking centre, which is proactive about developing and improving our practices and procedures.”

The RoSPA Awards scheme is open to businesses throughout the UK and overseas. It has also ran for 57 years, making it the largest and longest running competition of its kind.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801613418-ADNFCR
