Cleaning product safety campaign targets Liverpool

20th November 2013 | Warning Signs

Posted by Ben Alexander

The ‘Take action today, put them away’ educational campaign, which found success in Birmingham, has moved on to Liverpool.

The campaign, by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the UK Cleaning Products Association (UKCPI), aims to educate parents of young children about the dangers of cleaning products.

Children can easily get them in their eyes and mouth if they are not stored correctly, and from 2010 to 2012 43 under-fives found themselves in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital A&E for exactly that.

Alder Hey, along with other children’s centres and nurseries, will be distributing a magnetic notepad that serves as a warning sign about the dangers of household cleaning products.

Philip Malpass, of the UKCPI, said: “The accidents we see involving young children and cleaning products are avoidable and whilst the severity of the injuries are generally low, we hope that this campaign will remind parents to follow the usage instructions on the packaging, and in so doing, avoid unnecessary accidents.”ADNFCR-2754-ID-801662743-ADNFCR
