Companies may wish to review the helpfulness of their safety signs after a refurbishment business was prosecuted for exposing workers to asbestos.

John Todd Ltd was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) when it was found that the firm had not taken the necessary safety precautions to prevent the material from spreading throughout its site in Oswestry.

Upon visiting the site, HSE instantly stopped all of the company's work in order to lower the employees' health risks.

Nic Rigby, HSE inspector, said: "It is well known throughout industry that exposure to asbestos fibres can cause premature death, yet this company chose to expose its workers to this risk."

The organisation will not hesitate to prosecute companies that have worked improperly with asbestos, Ms Rigby noted.

This incident comes after the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents advised businesses to consider hiring a health and safety consultant to help boost the safety of workers.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800571553-ADNFCR
