A series of large projects in Northern Ireland (NI) has helped total construction output rise for the third quarter in a row.

The NI Construction Bulletin showed that there was an increase of £30 million over the first three months of this year, which was up by 6.3 per cent on the same period in 2011.

Although housing output was down 3.2 per cent over the quarter, construction safety signage sprung up at a number of large scale infrastructure projects.

"In the first quarter of 2012, new work increased by 6.7 per cent from the previous quarter.  However, the total volume of new work in quarter one 2012 was 2.1 per cent lower than the same quarter in 2011 and was 43 per cent lower than the peak in quarter one 2007," read the report.

Furthermore, repair and maintenance accounted for around a quarter of all construction output in NI during the first three months of 2012.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801411642-ADNFCR
