Construction site signs put up for 'long-awaited' supermarket development

Construction safety signs will be put up at a long-awaited £5 million supermarket development in Aberdeen that has finally rolled into action.
Work will soon begin on the Tesco site on waste ground at Summerhill, to the west of the city, the Press & Journal reports.
The development on the land, labelled an eyesore, has been in the pipeline since 2008 when councillors approved plans for the 60,000sqft store.
After two years of negotiations with eh local council over planning permission, construction safety signs will now go up for the project, which could create 300 jobs.
Gloria Coats, corporate affairs manager at Tesco, told the newspaper: "Having received planning consent from Aberdeen City Council in November, we are now moving ahead with site preparation works at Rousay Drive.
"We would like to thank local people again for their support and we look forward to delivering a new store for the local community."
Recently, a leaked letter from the Health and Safety Executive suggested that the regulator is planning to reduce its unannounced construction site visits by a third.
