Dorset Fire and Rescue Service has announced its Go for Gold Olympic home fire safety project.

It is designed to encourage families in Weymouth and Portland to consider fire safety by setting bronze, silver and gold certificates in the vein of the upcoming games, reports the Dorset Echo.

Olympics fire safety prevention and protection co-ordinator for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, Jason Rogers, told the newspaper: "We have devised this campaign to encourage young people to think about fire safety while they are thinking about the Olympics."

Mr Rogers continued by saying that the campaign gives people their very own chance to "win gold" and improve the safety of themselves and their family.

It is vital that homeowners check that their homes are fitted with fire safety measures, such as smoke alarms and a reliable fire escape plan.

The devices should also be tested on a regular basis in order to ensure they are always functional.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801383501-ADNFCR
