A number of drivers (67 per cent) have voted that 20mph speed zones should be applied outside schools, with many believing that the limit is enforced most effectively using warning signs, a study shows.

Forty per cent of people believe that speed limit signs are the best way to make drivers aware of the rule, with 43 per cent admitting that they would like a 20mph speed limit outside of their home, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

IAM head of road safety Kevin Delaney said: "If lower speed limits are restricted to locations and times where there is an obvious need, responsible drivers, who are the overwhelming majority, will adhere to them without the need for enforcement."

4NI.co.uk has revealed that a number of safety features are set to be incorporated on the A8 road in Northern Ireland.

Road markings and signs will be renewed on the road, covering the space between Redlands and Larne town centre.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800702063-ADNFCR
