18th May 2010 | Health and Safety Signs

Energy firm Doosan Babcock has been handed a prestigious award for its commitment to health and safety best practice, it has been confirmed.

The company, which is a subsidiary of Doosan Power Systems, won the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident's (RoSPA) Sir George Earle Trophy.

In addition to the organisation's premier award, the firm landed the RoSPA Engineering Construction Industry Sector Ward 2010 at a ceremony at Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel.

"The awards are further recognition of our exceptional health and safety record and the strength and commitment of all of our employees," said Doosan Power Systems chief executive Iain Miller.

"Our aim is to continually evolve to create safer working environments which protect our employees, customers and our supply chain partners."

Simon Hopkins, head of health, safety and environment at Doosan Power Systems, added that the awards represent a "fantastic tribute" to the work of the group.

Earlier this week, the Health and Safety Executive confirmed that it will be visiting construction sites across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire as part of its 'White Van Roadshow'.
