Residents in Epworth have been caught moving warning signs put in place to ensure drivers stay clear of flooded areas.

Speaking to the Epworth Bells, deputy mayor councillor Cynthia Ransome said there have been four incidents of the notices being moved, after a number of roads and bridges were shut due to the weather.

Councillor Ransome told the news provider: "River levels remain high across Doncaster, but levels are expected to begin slowly reducing today. Yesterday we had four incidents of drivers moving road closure signs."

She explained that removing the signs puts motorists and emergency responders at risk, while water can be much deeper than expected in the areas.

Torrential downpours across the country have wreaked havoc with the UK's transport system, with many drivers being forced to cancel trips as a result of the bad weather.

Rail networks have also taken a battering, as a number of services were delayed or cancelled over the last week.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801497291-ADNFCR
