The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has announced the winner of its safety sign competition.

Huw Gwilliam picked up the £1000 prize after designing a notice that reminds motorists to be vigilant when on the roads, while warning cyclists of the extra care required when travelling alongside large vehicles.

James Hookham, managing director of policy and communications, said: "Many companies already have their own cycling safety messages on their vehicles and we hope over time that this design will come to be recognised by cyclists everywhere as an aid to their safety."

Mr Hookham praised the winner for "incorporating a lot of information into a small space", while ensuring that the design looks clear.

Motorists and cyclists need to be extra careful on the roads, particularly in wet weather, which has been affecting communities across the UK in recent weeks.

It can only take a momentary lapse in concentration for an accident to happen, meaning that they need to remain vigilant.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801393279-ADNFCR
