A business in south-west Hampshire has been fined after a worker fractured his forearm.

The individual involved, who was working for Cannon Technologies, suffered a two metre fall from an unguarded office roof that had been used to store boxes.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the company had failed to provide any edge protection around the office roof.

Cannon Technologies Ltd, of Queensway, New Milton, was hit with a £14,000 fine and ordered to pay £2,740 in costs.

HSE Inspector Rob Hassell said: "Installing suitable protection around the edge and a safer method of getting up and down again from the roof was quite straightforward and Cannon Technologies Ltd has since put these in place."

Mr Hassell explained that the incident highlights that workers should not be afraid to question work methods.

HSE figures showed that 40 workers were killed as a result of falls from height in 2011/12.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801638936-ADNFCR
