Health and safety is the number one priority for the construction industry, it has been claimed.
Peter O'Connell, policy manager at the Federation of Master Builders, said that everyone has the right to go home after a day's work, adding that the sector takes the matter very seriously.
Mr O'Connell explained that the industry has been positive when it comes to engaging with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
"The industry has done a significant amount since then to try and improve health and safety performance in the sector. We have seen the number of fatalities on an annual basis really coming down over time," he noted.
Mr O'Connell continued by saying that work still needs to be done to press home the message of good health and safety practices.
His remarks come after Construction News compiled figures from the HSE, which found that 49 construction workers were killed between April 2011 and March 2012.
