The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has picked up an award from the Institution of Chemical Engineers for its efforts in the field of process safety within the offshore industry.

Its chair Judith Hackitt was presented with the award at IChemE’s Member Group dinner in Aberdeen, where HSE’s dedicated implementation of an effective safety regime was commended.

“It was a surprise when the winner of this award was announced. It gives me a great sense of pride in the outstanding work which HSE's staff continue to do in such an important area.

“What an endorsement for HSE's approach to offshore regulation - how many other regulators have been awarded for their work by those who they regulate?,” she stated

As part of its efforts to improve health and safety, the HSE has charged a number of businesses with monetary penalties for putting the wellbeing of workers at risk.

It recently sentenced Portsmouth steel manufacturer Condor Allslade after one of its workers suffered severe injuries.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801579317-ADNFCR
