HSE launches consultations on Approved Codes of Practice

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has begun consultations on new Approved Codes of Practice.
Alterations to the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) (L134-138), Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) (L5) and The control of legionella bacteria in water systems (L8) ACOPs have been created.
After an initial consultation in June 2012, the HSE board agreed that a number of the ACOPs would be revised, consolidated or withdrawn in line with advice from Professor Ragnar Lofstedt in his “Reclaiming health and safety for all” report.
It is hoped that the proposed changes will make it easier for bosses to understand and satisfy their legal obligations while reducing the risks of over-compliance in the process.
The revised drafts will now be put through a 12-week consultation process, which will end on August 23rd. It is expected that the revised ACOPs will be published by the end of this year.
