Intelect UK has joined a new scheme that aims to help contractors to improve their health and safety record.

The Middlesbrough -based electrical and mechanical engineering company has gained accreditation from SAFEcontractor, which acknowledges high standards of health and safety practice.

Such an accreditation could persuade other companies to review their warning signs, with Intelect's application being driven by its desire for a uniformed standard throughout its operations.

John Thompson, director of Intelect, said: "It's vital for us to recognise the importance of health and safety issues within a company like ours, and to be recognised for our efforts gives us the incentive to maintain such high standards in the long term."

Elsewhere, the Peterlee Mail recently reported that Gus Robinson Developments has been awarded a health and safety accolade from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The company collected the gold medal from the organisation, after it won five awards in succession.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801304273-ADNFCR
