IOSH calls for work-related road traffic accidents exposure

A health and safety body has called on the government to integrate work-related road traffic accidents into its official statistics, which may compel firms to introduce new safety signage.
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) wants to see the incidents recorded and recognised under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995.
Richard Jones, head of policy and public affairs at IOSH, said: "Each and every death or serious injury on the road is a cause of deep regret. Nationally, we need to do more to improve our management of work-related road risk and prevent accidents."
Employers have a moral and legal responsibility to help ensure the wellbeing of their workers when they are on business trips, Mr Jones commented.
This month, an article for The Star revealed that Vinci Construction UK has won the celebrating construction in South Yorkshire health and safety award.
The accolade was collected after the firm added new health and safety measures.
