An event that highlighted the appropriate ways to manage health and safety in schools was held in Leicester on November 20th.
The event, which was hosted by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), was called ‘Embracing Risk in Education’.
IOSH’s aim was to ensure that health and safety is used correctly to help children “experience a wide range of activities during their time at school”, and does not become a hindrance through improper use.
Displaying appropriate safety signage, assessing risks and ensuring a good level of supervision should mean that children do not lose out, and are able to have their learning supported by “external trips and out-of-school activities”.
The event was held at Leicester Racecourse. IOSH stressed the “importance of supporting young people learning to understand and manage the risks that are a normal part of life”.
