Laurencekirk Scotmid has been honoured for its efforts to stop underage and proxy sales of restricted items with a Sefer Retailing Award from the Scottish Business Crime Centre (SBCC).

The Mearns Leader reported that the organisation has adopted a number of measures, including a UV light to detect counterfeit ID cards and bank notes, while there is a strict “think 25” policy in place over all stores.

“The Challenge 25 policy shows their regard for the well being and safety of young persons in the community and can be a key factor in significantly reducing the opportunities for alcohol abuse which very often lead to anti-social behaviour and poor decision making by young people,” Richard Taylor, Kincardine and Mearns inspector, Police Scotland, said.

The SBCC Safer Retailing Award scheme has been introduced to decrease anti-social behaviour and promote other safety issues, such as noise reduction and how to address particular disabilities.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801581809-ADNFCR
