Homeowners in Lostock Green are displeased with new signs in the village, as they could spark confusion with road users.

Cheshire West and Chester Council installed the notices, but locals have told the Northwhich Guardian that their colouring, font size and positioning are causes of concern.

Lostock Green resident Kathy O’Donoghue was reported as saying: "There are signs on either side of the A556 pointing in opposite directions which could easily cause emergency services to go the wrong way.

"We’re very unhappy with the colour and font size that has been used because as well as being extremely large, the text is on a white background and implies INEOS is a place rather than a business."

Recently, transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin called on councils to remove needless road signs that clutter Britain's transport network.

Mr McLoughlin wrote a letter to local authorities, advising them to follow the approach seen in London, which has led to 8,000 repeater signs being taken down.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801523204-ADNFCR
