The presence of warning signs at a ford in Reading did not stop one motorist from attempting to drive through it.

Fire fighters rescued the 30-year-old from Lands End Ford in Charvil at around 11:00 yesterday, the Reading Chronicle reports.

Brett Humphreys, of Wokingham fire station, told the newspaper the man had gone into the ford after following his sat nav instructions.

"If you are going through a ford it would be a good idea to go an alternative route and if you see a flood sign don't drive past it.

"He was fine but a little bit embarrassed."

The incident is the latest in several instances of people trying to drive through the ford. Last Friday, an 82-year-old woman attempted to drive through it when her car was taken 500 yards downstream. She was rescued unharmed.

During the UK's big freeze, it was reported that some motorists in north Somerset were ignoring the warning signs informing them that the A30 road was closed.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800334106-ADNFCR
