Merseyside head teacher 'more than familiar' with need for warning signs

A Merseyside head teacher has had to become very familiar with safety and warning signs following a spate of compensation claims from pupils.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Litherland High School head Jim Donnelly explained that health and safety signs have become a staple in his job because of a fear of being sued.
He told the newspaper: "For example, if it starts to rain we would put up a 'Be careful, slippery surface' sign up on exit doors because we know insurers would want to know what steps we have taken."
Health and safety is one of the areas that came under consideration in Lord Young's Common Sense, Common Safety report, published by the government earlier this year.
The report recommends that steps are taken to change the perception of health and safety, particularly in schools, where there is concern that compensation claims are having a detrimental impact on the education sector.
