Metalworks factory destroyed in fire

16th June 2014 | Fire Signs

A metalworks factory, located on the Ferndown industrial estate in Wimborne, Dorset, has been destroyed in a major fire. The blaze took fire crews with 12 pumps a full five hours to bring under control.

The fire began at 17:30 GMT, continuing until 22:30 GMT. It is thought the cause of the inferno was an electrical fault, and the fire crews had to issue an urgent request to get the electricity mains underneath the building turned off.

In order to keep as many people safe as possible, firefighters evacuated the buildings either side of the one on fire, closed off the road on which it was located and asked local residents to close their windows to avoid smoke inhalation.

Employers need to make sure they are keeping their employees save from a blaze by making sure their building has clear fire escapes that are unblocked and well-marked with fire signs.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801728341-ADNFCR
