Motorcyclist criticises lack of warning signs in Burton

A motorcyclist has criticised Derbyshire County Council for failing to install enough warning signs on a hazardous road in Burton.

Christopher Wiggins was riding on the recently maintained Park Road but was unaware that it had been coated with stone until he actually began travelling on its surface, according to the Burton Mail.

Mr Wiggins told the newspaper: "There was no sign warning me until I was actually on it. It was like riding on ice. There was that much stone down I slid everywhere."

After hitting the surface, he slowed to 5mph, but still believed that the ride felt unstable.

Mr Wiggins also stated that if he had been an inexperienced rider, he would not have known how to handle the situation.

His claims follow a report in the Free Press Series, which revealed that temporary road signs are set to be erected on major roads in Monmouthshire in an effort to improve motorcyclists' safety. ADNFCR-2754-ID-800598617-ADNFCR
