Multiple safety failings led to injury for Holmfirth worker

A 68-year-old maintenance worker fractured his ankle after falling from a ladder, in an incident marked by multiple safety failings.

The incident occurred at the Bridge Mill business park in Holmfirth, where the worker in question was asked to use a ladder to remove several heat exchange units from a roof.

The ladder was being held by a cleaner, but it fell while the employee was working at a height of between four and five metres.

A Health and Safety Executive investigation found that not only were many safety failings found, there was actually nobody in the company that owned the business park who was responsible for health and safety.

Without someone to deal with risk assessments, safety signage and safe working practices, an accident was bound to occur.

Bridge Mills Ltd, the owner of the business park, was fined £7,000 and ordered to pay £1,355 in costs after pleading guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801680416-ADNFCR
