An illustration of a new cartoon character that was designed to protect businesses from injury alongside safety signage has collected a health and safety award.

Entitled PePE, the drawing is a cartoon baker who is shown on the sign boards of company's factories, displaying the specific items of protective equipment that staff need to wear.

It collected top prize at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health's (IOSH) National Food and Drink Health and Safety Awards.

Mark Edwards, operations risk manager for Speedibake, which designed the sign, said: "PePE is really making a difference as he uses universally understandable pictures that show exactly what people need to wear for the area of the building they're in."

Elsewhere, a local Crieff student has designed new road signs that will welcome road users into the town.

This installation will be located on the edge of the city and was designed by Crieff High School student Ewen Stewart. ADNFCR-2754-ID-800755823-ADNFCR
