Safety signs and other way-finding infrastructure could be installed around Morpeth in Northumberland in a bid to improve town planning for tourists.

Northumberland County Council has been working with a number of key local stakeholders to establish what improvements could be made in the town, reports the Morpeth Herald.

Speaking to the newspaper, a local authority spoksperson explained: "The scheme would include some new and some replacement brown and white signs with symbols indicating key attractions, while other attractions within the town would be included on town centre pedestrian signage."

Safety and warning signs will no doubt play a key role in Northumberland during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The iconic Olympic Torch is due to spend a night in the small market town of Alnwick on May 18th 2012 en route to the capital to launch the major sporting calendar event.

Temporary safety signs will no doubt prove key to ensuring that visitors to the town for the big event are able to watch the flame pass through in a low-risk environment.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800558050-ADNFCR
