NFU Cymru signs Wales Farm Health and Safety Charter

NFU Cymru has agreed to a new Farm Health and Safety Charter for Wales in order to help boost awareness of the hazards that people are up against in the agricultural sector.

This could prompt firms to adopt new warning signs, with the industry statistically being the UK's most dangerous. The charter hopes to discover tangible ways of improving farm safety and decreasing injuries, reports FarmingUK.com.

Ed Bailey, NFU Cymru president, speaking at the Charter launch near Welshpool, said: "No one who has an interest in the farming industry and allied sectors can fail to be appalled and saddened by the number of people tragically killed or injured each year."

Recently, it was revealed that farming is the most dangerous job in Ireland.

Figures from the Health and Safety Authority showed that, although farmers represent only six per cent of the country's working population, they accounted for 39 per cent of all workplace deaths in 2011.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801276546-ADNFCR
