North east farmers invited to safety event

Farmers in the north east have been invited to a new safety event to teach them about protecting their agriculture.
The free event aims to teach people about how to come to terms with health and safety in one of the UK's most dangerous industries, with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) organising the event.
UK farmers play a key role in maintaining the countryside and offer a primary source of employment for people away from urban centres.
HSE principal inspector Eileen Anderson said: "Many farmers are self-employed or run small family businesses so we want to make sure they aren't putting themselves, their family members and their livelihoods at risk.
"It's an alarming statistic that farmers are ten times more likely than most workers to be killed while at work - and on family farms that fatality is very likely to be a relative or close friend."
