North-east construction workers attend safety event

28th May 2010 | Construction Signs

Construction workers from the north-east attended a special event last month designed to teach them how to avoid serious injury in the workplace.

The initiative was organised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in conjunction with the launch of its new 'Working Well Together North-East' industry awareness group.

Employees convened at Wynyard Park in Billingham to witness a series of presentations on a range of health and safety practices, such as the implementation of warning signs.

"The day was a huge success and the fact that so many construction workers attended shows just how important the industry considers health and safety issues," said HSE principal inspector Rob Hirst.

"We were able to pass on a lot of helpful tips and advice and I am confident it will contribute to making the workplace a safer environment."

The HSE decided to hold the event after last year's Health and Safety Event and Exhibition at Gateshead International Stadium proved to be a great success.

According to HSE statistics, the construction industry is one of the most susceptible to workplace accidents, meaning companies should ensure they use appropriate safety signs.
