A Nottingham shop has gone to extreme lengths to ward off shoplifters – by installing a warning sign informing them they would be shot if they dared to steal.

The Dispatch reports how KT's Discount Book Store, in the city's Bulwell area, erected the sign reading: "Shoplifters will be SHOT!"

"It was meant as a joke really," the store's manager, Katie Levy, told the newspaper.

"Shoppers have been pointing it out to their children as they passed us. Most shoppers thought it was quite funny."
She added it had worked as a deterrent.

Most shoppers saw the funny side of the sign, with resident Bill Thompson telling the newspaper his children had "looked to see if there was a gun in the shop".

The newspaper reported that the police were informed of the matter and, when an officer visited the shop, the sign had been removed.

Recently, a Tesco Express store in Barry, Wales, erected a more humble warning sign, informing children they would not be allowed in without an adult.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800240352-ADNFCR
