Health and safety signage, clear leadership and sound working practices have made the London Olympic Park the safest Olympic stadium build ever.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) presented the Diamond Jubilee Award to the Olympic Delivery Authority at a ceremony in Birmingham last night (May 15th) to recognise the outstanding achievements of the Big Build construction phase.

Around 62 million hours of work has been put into the Park, with an Accident Frequency Rate of 0.17 per 100,000 hours.

Furthermore, there was not a single accident-related death during the construction phase, which is a major achievement given the size of machinery and materials being used.

Tom Mullarkey, chief executive of RoSPA, said: "The ODA’s approach to occupational health in particular, provides a shining example that the construction industry at large could learn from and follow."

The Olympic Games get underway on July 27th, and is now 72 days away.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801364092-ADNFCR
