A mother from Oxford has urged for bike safety signs to be introduced in her local area.

Doreen Barker's daughter passed away in May 2000 as she cycled in the area, while the number of incidents involving cyclists has soared to a five-year high. according to the Oxford Mail.

Speaking to the news provider, Mrs Barker said: "We don’t want it to happen to anybody else. There are all sorts of places in Oxford where it is really dangerous for cyclists."

She went on to say that signs which are strategically placed at the end of cycle lanes will notify drivers that cyclists are in the vicinity.

Mrs Barker stressed that, since the incident, nothing has been changed to improve the situation for cyclists in the area.

Local residents who feel their area would benefit from the introduction of safety signs should speak to their local authority, as it will be able to potentially introduce these notices and reduce the danger for road users.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801636221-ADNFCR
