The dangers of cleaning products are the focus of a campaign by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and The UK Cleaning Products Association (UKCPI).
The ‘take action today, put them away’ campaign aims to protect children in Birmingham from the common risk of accidentally swallowing or getting household cleaning products into their eyes.
A total of 606 children were treated at Birmingham and Solihull hospitals for accidental poisonings involving household cleaning products or medication last year.
RoSPA will be handing out a magnetic notepad to over 60,000 families, which will serve as a warning sign containing advice and information on the dangers of household cleaning products.
Sheila Merrill, RoSPA’s public health adviser, said: “It doesn’t take long for tiny hands to get hold of a household cleaning product if they are not stored safely... We want parents to recognise the risk this can pose to their children.”
