Play area sign bans ball games near basketball court

A warning sign that was introduced at a children's play area near a basketball hoop in West Berkshire appears to forbid ball games, which may lead to confusion for passers-by.

Ball games are not allowed at the play area near Shaw Social Club, though its position across from a basketball hoop and football goal seems to suggest that ball games are banned in the courts as well, reports NewburyToday.co.uk.

West Berkshire Council spokesman Phil Spray told the website: "The sign in question clearly says that 'no ball games' refers only to the children's play area. Ball games are welcomed elsewhere on the recreation ground."

Signage in the area also prohibits dogs, alcohol, smoking and bikes.

Last week, the Birmingham Post reported that poles, warning signs have been added to Selly Oak New Road, making navigation a challenging task for cyclists.

As a result, bike users must share half of the width of the footpath with pedestrians.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800714537-ADNFCR
