Officials at Preston Bus Station are hoping to stop jaywalkers in a new high-profile crackdown of the offenders.

Although a pledge has been made to get tough on those committing the crime, there is yet to be a fine handed out, questioning the effectiveness of the plan, reports the Lancashire Evening Post.

Councillor Robert Boswell, cabinet member for community and environment, told the news provider: "The council’s approach is to educate people about the dangers of crossing in unmarked places and we are raising awareness through increased signage on-site and warning offenders."

He added that signage has been placed on buses to remind passengers of the dangers of walking on the concourse.

Preston Council has put up 160 warning signs and hundreds more on the buses to help to tackle the problem, raising awareness of the potential dangers that face pedestrians who walk in the area. ADNFCR-2754-ID-801651510-ADNFCR
