Withernsea Primary School has been the first establishment to be awarded an ‘A’ grade in the ‘SchoolSafe’ programme pioneered by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The programme evaluates the safety systems that schools have in place to protect students, staff and parents from harm.

The five key areas the programme focuses on are teaching classes safely, teaching pupils about safety, out-of-classroom experiences, physical safety issues and practical management.

Pupils are required to learn about health and safety, such as how to interpret warning signs so they are not surprised by a hazardous situation.

David Rushton, head of education and leisure at RoSPA, said: “This grade is a reflection of the school’s positive approach, not just to health and safety management but also to safety education for its pupils.

“SchoolSafe was launched in September and Withernsea Primary School has achieved the highest score to date, which is a fantastic achievement.”ADNFCR-2754-ID-801671833-ADNFCR
