Youngsters at St Nicholas Primary School, Beverley are going to be invited to design their own safety signs over the coming weeks, for use on a local building site.

Site manager at the Linden Homes housing development nearby the school, Gary Coles, is keen to engage the local community in the project, which will see 130 energy efficient homes constructed over the coming months.

Pupils from the school received a special invitation to visit the development, impressing Mr Coles so much that he wants them to have input in the health and safety signs that will be used on the site.

He explained: "It was an excellent morning and all the children were really excited about being part of the construction process for the duration of their visit.

"They asked some great questions and really showed an interest in what was going on."

Last week, a youngster from Telford, Ryan Ellis, designed a safety sign which is set to be used outside his school to warn drivers about the importance of driving safely.
