Improved health and safety signage has been installed at a reopened entrance point to a cemetery in Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

According to the Lincolnshire Echo, the gated Millfield Terrace entrance to Sleaford Cemetery was blocked off in 2006 after concerns that headstones could be unsafe.

Although just a secondary gate to the cemetery's primary entrance point, thousands of residents have campaigned for it to be reopened in the ensuing years, with a petition of 1,772 signatures being submitted to the council.

Now the entrance will reopen with improved health and safety signage and an assurance that paths and shrubbery will be maintained.

Shirley Cheevers told the newspaper she was delighted.

"It's lovely it's reopened and it goes to show hard work really does pay off.

"Now the gate is open, it makes it so much easier for me," she said.
