Recycling firms warned to take safety 'seriously'

Recycling firms need to ensure that they take health and safety seriously in the workplace after one man was injured by a falling stack of cookers.

This is the verdict of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which has charged Environcom England Ltd regarding an injury sustained by one of its workers. The body's message may also cause some companies to reconsider their use of safety signage.

HSE inspector Judith McNulty-Green said: "The range of simple, common sense measures that could have been taken to prevent heavy stacks of machine toppling over just goes to underline what basic mistakes Environcom made.

"Its failures and this sentence should be a warning to other recycling firms to take safety seriously."

St John's Ambulance has focused on health and safety recently, and has called on organisations in the Wirral to offer appropriate health and safety training to their workers, reports the Wirral Globe. ADNFCR-2754-ID-800582590-ADNFCR
