Schoolchildren in the Selby district have been taught about road safety thanks to an annual scheme at Drax Power Station.

The Goole Courier has reported that a total of 40 children visited the premises over two days to take part in a game of Road Safety Bingo and learn about warning signs through a number of different games.

It is the fifth year Drax has run its Junior Road Safety Day, which was organised by North Yorkshire County Council.

Ann Smallwood, of North Yorkshire County Council Road Safety and Travel Awareness body, told the news provider: "The continued support of Drax has helped us to widen our road safety message across schools and promote safe behaviour when children are walking, cycling or in the car."

Recently, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) ran a campaign to underline the hazards Children face on driveways.

Its Child on the Drive! scheme hopes to raise awareness of the dangers youngsters face near vehicles.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801506650-ADNFCR
