Road safety sign blunder delays bus route opening
11th December 2009 | Warning Signs
The opening of a new bus route from St Ives to Cambridge has been put back after safety signs were painted backwards.
A hapless workman from the contractor responsible for the project was attempting to paint Guided Bus Only signs on the road in preparation for the opening of the route, but he put his stencil the wrong way around and painted the 'N' back to front.
The blunder further postpones the official unveiling of the route, which has faced a series of setbacks.
It was initially scheduled for November but is now unlikely to take place until next year.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council said the contractor is aware of the error and "will be putting it right".
Earlier this week, the Daily Echo reported that a driver in Bournemouth was issued 35 penalty charge notices after ignoring bus route warning signs in the town.
