Romanian road signs warn drivers of drunken pedestrians

10th March 2010 | Warning Signs

Road warning signs depicting drunken pedestrians are appearing in a small town in Romania after a spate of recent accidents, it emerged yesterday (March 9th).

Local authorities in Pecica, which is located 13 miles from the border with Hungary, have erected ten different bright red signs containing the message 'Attention - Drunks'.

The signs, which also depict a person crawling on their knees with a glass in one hand, are being placed on roads near popular bars and clubs in the area.

Mayor Peter Antal has revealed that he came up with the idea after seeing similar signs being used in a town in Germany.

"We are a border town and have lots of cars thundering through here all the time," he told local media.

"But we also have a very vibrant nightlife and the two don't mix. We have to target the drivers because by the time they get to this state, the pedestrians are beyond caring."

Last week, the Arran Banner revealed that local drivers on the Scottish island have been ignoring road warning signs in the recent snowy conditions as they believe they are erected for the benefit of tourists.
