Safety event to highlight warning sign importance

24th February 2010 | Warning Signs

An upcoming event being held by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will help to illustrate the importance of using workplace precautions such as warning signs in the farming industry.

Taking place tomorrow (February 25th) in Penrith, Cumbria, workers and employers will be invited to come along and learn about how warning signs and other safety measures can help to reduce the number of injuries and deaths occurring in the industry.

Practical safety demonstrations will focus on transport, quad bikes, falls from height, manual handling, machinery and child safety, said Peter Hamer, HSE agriculture inspector in Cumbria.

He commented: "Every week, someone in the UK dies while working in agriculture. These deaths are needless and most could be prevented by taking simple steps to improve safety."

Meanwhile, an event held in the Wirral yesterday educated members of the roofing industry about how workplace precautions such as health and safety signs can help to prevent accidents.
