Safety signs help lower South Devon biker accidents

6th August 2012 | Health and Safety Signs

Safety signs have been introduced to reduce motorcycle accidents in Devon.

The notices, which read "think bike" and "biker in your blindspot?", have been positioned on roadsides of the A382 Newton Abbot to Whiddon Down, A380 from Penn Inn to Kerswell Gardens, A379 near Powderham Castle and A381 Kingsteignton to Teignmouth.

On the A382, fatal, serious and slight accidents have dropped from 6 in 2010 to 0 in 2011.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "These signs have raised awareness of motorcyclists among all road users and we are seeing positive results stem from that.

"The County Council is committed to reducing the number of collisions on our roads and making Devon’s roads safer."

News of these warning signs comes after the Brentwood Gazette reported that Brentwood Borough Council Leader Louise McKinlay has called for a 20mph restriction to be fitted in Brentwood.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801422714-ADNFCR
