Safety stickers have been used as part of a drink drive crackdown in a Cheshire town.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service called at Widnes as part of its Santa's Safety Roadshow to alert people to the dangers of drink-driving, the Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News reported.

The well-attended event – more than 500 people turned up – saw the service issue taxi drivers with window safety stickers, while shops, pubs and clubs were given beer mats and road safety posters.

"We're really pleased that so many people have taken the time to visit this roadshow," Road Safety officer Peter Shields told the newspaper.

"Our drink-drive message is very simple – don't, and the more people we can reach with that message the closer we can get to zero road deaths from drink driving."

A similar scheme has been rolled out in South Yorkshire.

Pubs and nightclubs across the county were given safety stickers to place on mirrors in their washrooms, the South Yorkshire Star said.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800318603-ADNFCR
