Saratt bonfire scrapped amid health and safety fears

Bonfire night celebrations commencing in Saratt next month will not feature a bonfire due to safety concerns, indicating that even the addition of safety signage would not enable a fire to be created.

The firework display is a joint venture between the park and the parish council and will instead include a number of stalls alongside a host of bonfire night activities, including apple bobbing, reports the Watford Observer.

Janice Dawes, Sarratt Parish Council clerk, told the newspaper: "It is the distances between crowds, fireworks and bonfires that is the problem. We cannot accommodate a bonfire as well as the fireworks due to the distances required for safety reasons."

Ms Dawes expressed her hope that the absence of a bonfire will not reduce the event's appeal.

Recently, it was confirmed that the Fire Industry Association will hold a seminar on fire safety this month as part of the Workplace Management event in London, which takes place on October 11th and 12th. ADNFCR-2754-ID-800750264-ADNFCR
